Work totes are bought by two very different customers: the retail shopper who wants a bag that looks right in an office, and the buyer who needs it to carry a laptop every day without the base sagging. 1. Sleeve dimensions, in millimetres
Give us the internal sleeve dimensions and the laptop class you are designing around — 13–14 inch for Japan and Korea, 15.6–16 inch for the US and EU. A false bottom (padding under the sleeve) keeps the laptop off the base of the bag, and it is the cheapest way to avoid damage complaints.
2. Structure: the base and the handles carry the bag
- A reinforced base panel, with or without protective feet
- Handle attachment stitched and riveted — handles carry the entire load and fail first
- Handle drop of 22–25 cm for shoulder carry, longer if the bag will be worn over a coat
- A detachable, adjustable shoulder strap if you sell cross-body use
- Lining in a contrast colour — cheaper than you think, and it photographs far better
3. Interior organisation sells this category
Work totes are compared on the inside: laptop sleeve, A4 document section, one or two slip pockets, a zip pocket for keys and cards, a pen loop. A tote with one big compartment gets returned; one with four defined spaces does not. Specify whether you want a trolley sleeve on the back panel — for business travel it is a deciding feature.
4. Material and price bracket
- Genuine cowhide and crazy horse — premium retail; takes embossing and edge painting and ages visibly
- Microfiber leather — consistent colour and thickness across the run, easy to clean; the practical choice for marketplace SKUs
- Canvas and oxford — lighter and lower cost, right for campus and travel lines
5. Branding at 50 pieces
Embossed or foil-stamped logo, metal nameplate, woven or printed label, custom lining, custom pullers, branded dust bag and hang tag. What changes at higher volumes is documented in private label leather bags.
6. Samples, MOQ and QC
Pre-production samples take 3 to 5 days and you approve a physical piece — dimensions, material, hardware, handle construction and logo placement — before bulk production starts. MOQ is 50 pieces per design, splittable across colours. 50 pieces per design. If you are testing a range, three designs at 50 pieces each tells you more than 150 pieces of one style.
Can you build the tote around a specific laptop model?
Yes — send the model or its dimensions, and we will size the sleeve and the false bottom to it, then confirm on the sample.
Can the same design be made in leather and in canvas?
Yes, and it is a common request: one pattern, two materials, two price points. Canvas needs a different interlining, which we confirm on the sample.
