Waist packs are one of the few categories where the cheapest component decides your return rate: webbing, buckles and zip quality. A waist pack carries weight on a single strap, so a buckle that is 20 cents cheaper shows up in reviews within a month. We manufacture waist packs, fanny packs and crossbody sling packs in Guangzhou at MOQ 50 pieces per style.
1. Decide the format before the design
| Classic waist pack | Worn at the waist, often with a folding strap. Streetwear, travel and festival markets. |
| Crossbody sling | Worn across the chest as a one-shoulder pack. The faster-growing format in the last three years. |
| Convertible | Removable or re-routed strap that works both ways. Higher perceived value, slightly higher unit cost. |
2. Size by use, not by trend
Small (1–1.5 litres) is a phone-and-wallet product. Medium (2–3 litres) takes a phone, wallet, power bank and keys, and it suits everyday urban use. Large (4–5 litres) starts to behave like a sling and needs a wider strap to stay comfortable. Confirm the strap length range you want to sell — waist packs sold into Europe often need a longer strap than those sold into Asia.
3. Materials and what they signal
- Nylon and oxford — light, water-repellent, technical. Specify the denier (600D and 1680D behave very differently under load).
- Cordura-style textured nylon — abrasion resistance and a premium technical look.
- Canvas — lifestyle and streetwear, heavier, cheaper to print.
- Microfiber leather — the dressy end. Consistent across a run and easy to clean.
For any pack sold into winter markets, ask how the coating behaves in cold air: a film that stiffens and cracks at −10°C is a returns problem, not a wear-and-tear one.

4. Buckles, webbing and zips: specify all three
- Buckle brand and size (a 25 mm or 38 mm side-release is standard; specify the brand if you need load rating)
- Webbing type and thickness — the point where the strap folds through the buckle is where it wears out
- Adjustment range and whether the strap is fixed or removable
- Zips: coil or metal, size, and whether the main pocket is double-zipped
- Strap end retention, so the tail does not flap on a moving customer
5. Custom options at 50 pieces
Custom colourways, embossed or printed logo on the face or the webbing, rubber or woven labels, custom lining, patterned fabric print, custom buckle colour, branded packaging. Colourways are what make a waist pack look like your own product rather than a generic one, and they cost far less than a new pattern. Details on how these change with volume are in private label leather bags.
6. Samples, MOQ and QC
Pre-production samples take 3 to 5 days. You approve a physical piece — dimensions, fabric, buckle, strap range and branding — before bulk production starts. MOQ is 50 pieces per style, splittable across colours. Inspection covers fabric consistency, buckle load, stitch tension, zip function, strap adjustment and logo position; our defect rate is held under 2% and each bag carries a 3-year warranty. See our QC checklist.
Frequently asked questions
What is your MOQ for waist packs and slings?
50 pieces per style, and you can mix colours within that. If you are testing two formats, ordering 50 of each gives you real market data faster than 100 of one.
Can you produce a waist pack from my sketch?
Yes. Send the sketch or a reference photo with measurements and we will write the specification — fabric, denier, buckle, strap length, pocket layout — then make a sample for approval.
Do you supply to Amazon and marketplace warehouses?
Yes, including individual polybags, barcodes and carton markings. See the US Amazon case study.
